Today's Amazon Kindle status:
IN STOCK!
Kindle owners, please note that you can now click on a button at the left of an Amazon screen for a book that is NOT currently available for the Kindle and Amazon will notify the publisher for you that there is demand for the book in a Kindle version. Kudos to Amazon for adding this feature. Hmmm, I wonder how many requests they will get for The Lord of the Rings and the Harry Potter books.

Isn't this just the neatest "button"! I already have used it for Harry Potter, and few other authors who's books I would like to see Kindle-ized. Thank you for all the wonderful tips and information you share on your blog.
I'd like to remind everyone to send comments and feature requests to the Kindle Feedback address -- kindle-feedback@amazon.com -- as this was one I requested a few times over the last month (only just got my Kindle last month).
I also requested an entry point for "Notify me when this book is available in Kindle format" (like the "notify me" option in Amazon's DVD Store). Further, I thought a "Writer Alert" to let one know when a particular author puts anything out at the Kindle Store (like Apple's iTunes Store option to notify whenever an artist has a new album available at the iTS).
woo WOO!
this is just the kind of thing amazon has needed for a long time, and makes it look like maybe, just maybe, theyve decided to stop partying like its 1999. its about time they join the rest of the internet in the 21st century.
they still have a looong way to go, though.
re ralph: im about a week away from finishing an online app that will allow you to create a custom RSS feed for any number of searchable fields (including author, of course) that will enable me (and you, and anyone else who wants this sort of functionality) to keep track of new books as they are added to the kindle store.
i got tired of waiting and badgering amazon to do it... since they cant seem to get with the program, i decided to do it myself.
when its finished and polished up a bit, enough that im comfortable letting the world use it, ill send out announcements to the various kindle spots in the blogosphere, so im sure youll hear about it...
Is it possible to load my own essays or other written material onto the Kindle in micro soft word format?
Stratford, to transfer your own essays and other MS Word documents to your Kindle, you need to have them converted into a format the Kindle can read. The easiest way is to e-mail your word documents to your Kindle's e-mail address at Amazon. Within usually a few minutes Amazon will do the conversion and load the document on your Kindle through the Whispernet connection. Look at

Does it really do any good? I have clicked this "Kindle-ize" button over a thousand times each for certain titles, but so far not one of them has appeared in a Kindle edition. The books in question are brand new publications, so you'd think the publishers would be eager to tap into the Kindle market. So, again, I ask if publishers really care one way or the other about Kindle owners.
Yes, it is frustrating. I am still looking in vain for a few favorite authors, but am gratified that slowly the number of titles available in Kindle editions has grown from 75,000 to over 200,000. It appears that some publishers like Little, Brown and Company, Penguin, Bantam, Knopf, FSG and HarperCollins are getting on board faster than others. Keep pushing that button!
